Rio Sierpe Lodge, Costa Rica

GATEWAY TO THE OSA PENNINSULA

Eco-Tourism

Rio Sierpe Lodge is nestled among the virgin forests, mangrove estuaries, and Pacific coastal islands on the Sierpe River. Established in 1972, this rustic tropical rainforest lodge has a spectacular view of Violin Island and the marine environment.

Rio Sierpe Lodge is located on the Sierpe River, on the SW coast of Costa Rica, 40 minutes from the town of Sierpe by boat, and about 40 minutes from the town of Palmar. The lodge is about 10 minutes by boat to the Pacific ocean. Transportation to the lodge is by boat only.

Transportation: We are only accessible by water, which helps to preserve the ecological balance in the area. We will pick you up at the airport in Palmar Norte, after a short flight from San Jose, or we can pick you up in Sierpe, a small banana town, which is accessible from San Jose by road. From Sierpe, we take you, via boat, to the lodge down the Sierpe river and estuaries while viewing monkeys, crocodiles, parrots and other wildlife en route.

We are a part of a mammoth marine ecosystem. More than 100,000 acres of mangrove wetlands and 1000 miles of fresh and salt water rivers, estuaries and tributaries interact with the Pacific Ocean through tides which provide for a incredible abundance of marine life at our doorstep.

There are multiple national parks a boat ride away and trails from our lodge into the interior of a large biodiverse wet rainforest system. There are a million total species of birds, and endless thousands of species of moths and butterflies. In a space of less than .0003 of the earth’s surface are 5% of all the plant and animal species on the planet.
