Peru

Peru is the living heart of the Andes and proudly retains the 2000 year old heritage, mysteries and traditions of its pre-Columbian civilizations. Here, remote villages are still untouched by encroaching Westernization.

A land of many contrasts, Peru's desert coasts are cut by the runoff of Andean snows that form jagged canyons. The high pampas of the Altiplano are ringed by 6,000 meter peaks with eastern drainages that plunge through mysterious cloud forests to the tropical rainforests of the Amazon. These diverse environments shelter unique plant and animal species unknown anywhere else in the world.

Peru Overview (13 days)
This program focuses on the historical and cultural aspects of Peru while also experiencing a variety of its habitats.  We visit the Nezca Lines, Arequipa, Lake Titicaca, Punop, Uros, Cusco, Machu Picchu, and more! Lodge and Hotel overnights.

Dates: (13 days) $1395    (9 days) $ 915
Departures weekly, all year

Peruvian Treks:
Trekking in Peru involves hiking the mountains, the Cordilleras, via ancient Inca highways and trails.  It is the best way to reach remote villages and isolated cultures, not to mention spectacular alpine scenery of some of the most vertical terrain anywhere in the world.  All of our trekking programs combine with each other to form longer programs.

How to Combine Our Treks
These treks were designed to fit together easily. They may be taken in any order, but for smoothness and cost effectiveness, we recommend the following order:

      1:  Cordillera Blanca
2:  Inca Trail to Machu Picchu
      3:  Cordillera Vilcanota.

In any combination the Cordillera Vilcanota should be
taken last to assure proper acclimatization.

Inca Trail to Machu Picchu (9 days)
This trek is a fascinating blend of Inca culture and the steep cloud forests of the Cordillera Vilcabamba. After exploring the Inca capital, Cusco, and its surrounding ruins, we trek along well preserved Inca highways through the lush cloud forest visiting various villages and Inca ruins before arriving at the spectacular ruins of Machu Picchu.

Price: $885
Dates: Departures every Friday April through March

Cordillera Blanca Trek (9 days)
For spectacular snow capped peaks the Cordillera Blanca has no equal. Only 70 miles from the Pacific Ocean it boasts 11 summits over 20,000 feet. Our trek takes us through the heart of this vertical ice country, past Huascaran, Peru's highest peak.

Price: $850
Dates: Departures every Friday April through October

 Cordillera Vilcanota Trek (7 days)
Located at the northern end of the Altiplano, it is so remote, time seems to be standing still. Here villagers wear traditional costumes, herd Alpaca and Llama and plant potatoes as did their Incan ancestors. Our trek circumnavigates Ausangate Massif via high passes with immense vistas. Hot springs await us at our first and last nights camps. NOTE: This is a high altitude trek we recommend acclimatizing on a prior trek or by spending a few extra days in Cusco.

Price: $850
Dates: Departures every 1st and 3rd Sunday April through October
